Painting doors: day one

Andrea and Martin introduce the first coats of paint ‘ We’re putting colour into the building’. Each with their own special style, tips and advice from how to remove door handles to rolling techniques they guide you through the step by step process of preparing the doors, to rolling on the paint through to the final touches.  Saatchi recommends painting as a keep fit exercise. Felix demonstrates how to customize your work wear – an essential part of the DIY Kit. 


Painting doors: day two

 ‘it makes the place feel more like home’ Junaid provides insight on the colour coded bidding process, and young peoples housing issues in general. Securiity is a high factor in this building, but remember keeping doors open is essential when painting them. keyworker Adrian takes you through the unlocking procedure. Later Andrea recommends to remove the entire door locking system before painting, even if it does seem a little over the top!

 ‘This is my door - Jaye was ‘ere 2007’Jaye shows you her graffiti intervention and takes you on a guided tour ‘ the building looks live it don’t look dead anymore, it looks live’. Martin, Jaye, Elizabeth and Andrea show how individual styles can compliment each other, and that everyone can paint a door with little or no experience. Whatever the colour, good lighting will get the best painted results, so its worth stocking up on light bulbs. Cameron recommends that picking a colour ‘to please ‘the girllfriend’ is a bonus.


Painting doors: day four

The service users here have their own way of doing things, has it been hard for you to work around that routine? Key worker Adrian interviews Martin and Andrea on the job. Breaking the routine might be the answer as Marion leaves her desk to learn the knack of holding the paint brush like a pen for best results.’ Zoom in to the Random colour scheme and find how it feels to live in a building full of locked doors  in a unedited documentary shot by Cameron.

If open doors are left unattended, always keep a check on the cctv monitoring system ’key worker Adrian gives more advice on security checks and signing permission forms whilst Andrea guides you (with doorstoppers in hand) on the finishing touches from sanding to replacing the door furniture.


Painting doors: day six

Once all the doors were magnolia, now twenty six of them are painted a different colour. Andrea returns to the yellow door to do the final inspection.
